Sharon Cherney Leather
My passion has always been sewing. I have pursued that passion for the past forty years by sewing leather bags. I work from my home in rural Wisconsin where I have the pleasure of observing nature up close everyday and drawing inspiration from the beauty around me.
Leather is a sensual material to work with. It is supple and vibrant and yet extremely strong and durable. Each piece of leather has it’s own character and must be carefully inspected as the pattern pieces are laid out and then cut and sewn. The patterns are my own designs and I use a variety of techniques including cut work, applique, and trapunto to decorate the fronts of many of the bags. I’m often asked to make special bags for people helping them to include all the features that make for their perfect bag.
